Banished from Massachusetts, Roger Williams flees into the wilderness, where he founds Rhode Island and, most importantly, leads a revolution in religious freedom. Williams calls for "Soul Liberty," the bedrock principle that the religious beliefs of Americans cannot be dictated by a government or official church. In the wilderness, Williams also tries to negotiate peace as tensions rise between English colonists and Native Americans.
