It’s Wednesday, which means New Comic Book Day at State of Comics!!!!
We’ve got another huge week of releases hitting the shelves, with more than 80 new comics and covers from Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Oni Press, and more.
There’s a LOT to check out this week, so we wanted to highlight some of the biggest releases, new #1s, and books we think are worth taking a look at.
ABSOLUTE CASSANDRA CAIN: THE SHADOW’S HAND #1
The Absolute Universe keeps getting bigger.
This week brings us Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand #1, a one-shot spinning out of Absolute Catwoman and diving deeper into the story of Cassandra Cain.
Years ago, the Joker trained with the League of Assassins before turning against them. Out of what remained came Lady Shiva and her daughter, Cassandra Cain. Now we’re getting a closer look at Cassandra’s place in the Absolute Universe and how her story connects with Selina Kyle.
If you’ve been following DC’s Absolute books, this is definitely one to check out.
DNX #1
The X-Men have a major new problem on their hands.
DNX #1 kicks off a new five-issue series from writer Jed MacKay and artist Federico Vicentini, continuing the conflict between the X-Men and 3K. Both Cyclops and the Chairman have seen the future of the Age of Revelation—but they came back determined to do two very different things about it. Cyclops wants to prevent that future. 3K wants to control it.
At the center of it all is the X-Virus, part of White Beast's plan to forcibly transform humans into mutants. While the X-Men turn to the Fantastic Four for help saving one of their own, White Beast prepares to unleash the virus in a major population center.
If you've been following Jed MacKay's X-Men, this is a big continuation of what's been building with 3K—and the start of a new chapter that could have some major consequences for Marvel's mutants.
EXQUISITE CORPSES: FOX MASK KILLER #1
One of the deadliest characters from Exquisite Corpses is getting her own story.
Fox Mask Killer #1 begins a new five-issue miniseries exploring the past of the mysterious sword-wielding assassin. Among the killers-for-hire in the world of Exquisite Corpses, even other assassins fear the Fox Mask Killer. But now she wants something that may be even harder than surviving another fight—she wants out.
The problem? The only person who may be able to give her a way out of her old life might be the last person she should trust.
Written by Che Grayson with art by Adam Gorham, colors by Jordie Bellaire, and letters by Becca Carey, the series digs into the Fox Mask Killer's backstory while expanding the world established in the original Exquisite Corpses series.
And if you haven't read Exquisite Corpses yet, you can still jump in here. The creative team has specifically designed Fox Mask Killer to work as its own entry point into the series.
AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON #4
Things continue to get bigger in Avengers: Armageddon.
Issue #4 brings the Avengers closer to the breaking point while also introducing a "new" character to the Marvel Universe. More importantly, the events of Armageddon are helping set the stage for Marvel’s upcoming Avengers #1 in November.
If you’ve been following the series, you’re probably not going to want to skip this one.
