NEW COMIC BOOK DAY — SEPTEMBER 30, 2026
It’s Wednesday, which means New Comic Book Day at State of Comics!
And this week has a pretty big milestone sitting right at the top.
Amazing Spider-Man reaches issue #1000.
We’ve also got a brand-new Amazing Venom #1, Alien vs. X-Men #1, the 25th issue of Geiger, Hammerfist #2, DNX #2, Uncanny X-Men #36, Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special #1 and a whole lot more hitting the shelves.
Here are a few books worth knowing about this week.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1000
ONE THOUSAND ISSUES.
That’s pretty crazy to think about.
Amazing Spider-Man #1000 celebrates one of the biggest milestones in Marvel history with an oversized issue bringing together creators from across Spider-Man’s past and present.
But this isn’t just a collection of anniversary stories.
Peter is facing Ravage, a new villain introduced as part of the milestone issue, while Aunt May’s recent stroke has left her unable to remember Peter.
Marvel also brought together a huge group of creators to celebrate the occasion, including Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, Dan Slott, Marcos Martin, J.M. DeMatteis, Humberto Ramos, Frank Miller, Peach Momoko, Patrick Gleason, Ed McGuinness and more.
Spider-Man has been around since 1962.
Getting to Amazing Spider-Man #1000 is just cool.
If you’re a Spider-Man fan, this is obviously the book we’re talking about first this week.
THE AMAZING VENOM #1
Apparently one Amazing book wasn’t enough this Wednesday.
The Amazing Venom #1 kicks off a brand-new series from writer Jordan Morris with art by Luke Ross and Julius Ohta.
Fred Myers—formerly Boomerang and now Comeback—has been bonded with a symbiote called Passenger. Fred would really like his life to become LESS complicated.
It’s not working.
Coming out of the war between Hela and Knull, Fred and Passenger find themselves thrown into a mission that’s way bigger than either of them planned for.
It’s weird. It’s Venom. And most importantly, it’s a brand-new #1, so you’ve got a place to jump in from the beginning.

ALIEN VS. X-MEN #1
I’m not sure this one needs much of a sales pitch.
Aliens. X-Men.
That’s the book.
Marvel continues bringing the Alien universe into some pretty wild corners of its comic universe, and this time the X-Men are the ones dealing with the Xenomorphs.
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when mutant powers meet one of the most dangerous creatures in science fiction, apparently we’re going to find out.
And again: #1. Start here.
Sometimes comics can just give us something ridiculous and fun.
I’m good with that.

GEIGER #25
Geiger hits its own milestone this week with issue #25, and Geoff Johns and Gary Frank aren’t using it as a victory lap.
They’re starting something bigger.
The oversized issue finally puts Tariq Geiger face-to-face with the mysterious President Griffin. More importantly, it serves as the prelude to Radioactive Revolution, the upcoming Geiger/Redcoat crossover.
So while this is issue #25, it’s also the beginning of a new story arc.
If you’ve been curious about the Ghost Machine universe, this is one worth taking a look at.
HAMMERFIST #2
Hammerfist is already getting weird.
Mike is on the run after the heist from the first issue and discovers that basically everyone around him belongs to the cult of MOTHERGRUB.
Every person could be a threat. Every corner could be a trap.
Meanwhile, Cindy has been taken to a ceremonial cathedral where she’s being prepared as a sacrifice to bring about something called BLACK NOON.
Which sounds healthy.
Hammerfist is an ongoing series from Rick Remender and Steve Epting.
If you grabbed #1, #2 is here.
If you didn’t...you might want to see what everyone was grabbing.
SUPERMAN: KINGDOM OF ZOD SPECIAL #1
The Kingdom of Zod story ends here.
The Kryptonite Kingdom has fallen, and DC is bringing pretty much everyone to the fight: Superman versus Zod, Supergirl versus Ursa, and the Super-Family and Super-Force taking on Zod’s army.
This is a one-shot event finale, not the beginning of another ongoing series, and it wraps up the larger Kingdom of Zod storyline.
If you’ve been following Kingdom of Zod, this is the payoff.
AND THERE’S A LOT MORE THIS WEEK
Those aren’t even close to everything on the wall.
We’ve also got DNX #2, Fantastic Four #17, Uncanny X-Men #36, Venom #262, Wonder Woman Annual, Poison Ivy #48, Bizarro: Year None #3, White Sky #6, Denver #2 and plenty more.
And that’s why we do these every Wednesday.
We’re not trying to list every comic that came through the door. You can look at the new-release page for that.
We want to show you a few books you might actually want to READ.
Maybe it’s Amazing Spider-Man #1000.
Maybe you want to jump into Amazing Venom from the beginning.
Maybe you see Alien vs. X-Men and think that’s completely ridiculous.
Perfect.
That’s the fun of comics.
DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START?
Ask us.
You don’t need to understand decades of continuity before you can walk into a comic shop.
Tell us what you like and we’ll help you find something.
Superheroes. Horror. Sci-fi. Fantasy. Crime. Manga. Something weird.
We’ll point you in the right direction.
SEE WHAT’S NEW
Check out all of this week’s New Comics at StateofComics.com, or come into the shop and look through the wall.
Honestly, that’s still more fun.
